Indian Oven Review

I have heard through the grapevine that Indian Food was absolutely amazing, but I never thought to actually go out and eat it. I love trying new things, don't get me wrong, but I never knew where to go and what to order. It's sad to say, but my ignorance held me back from tasting sometime so heavenly- until now.

Last night was my friend/roommate Lisle's birthday. To kick off her 19th celebration of living on this wonderful place we called earth, she decided that she wanted Indian food. At first, I was reluctant to go, because we had no clue where we would find cheap, delicious Indian cuisine in the city of San Francisco! But have no fear ladies and gentlemen, the ever reliable and all knowing Laura knows just where to go! My 5th roomie, as we call her, went to an adorably fancy Indian restaurant with her friend last semester and absolutely loved it! And once she said it was affordable, I was totally down.

We arrive at the tiny restaurant in the Lower Haight district on the corner of Haight and Fillmore St. and I must say those buds in my tongue were salivating at the spicy aroma in the atmosphere. Laura was indeed right about the fanciness of the restaurant. It was simplistic, yet divine as the tables were lined with crimson chairs and white tablecloths, complete with red and white carnations in beautiful brass vases as the centerpiece. We sat down in the back of the restaurant and scanned through the menu.

I did not know what to order, but I decided to play it safe and order some chicken. That is always the best thing to do in my opinion when going to a new restaurant. No matter what, there will always be chicken on the menu (unless it's vegan or vegetarian specific). However, I was stumped when deciding what chicken dish to order! There were so many selections ranging from chicken tandoori to chicken bhindi. The list goes on and I was just in awe. I honestly wanted to try all of it but I decided to go with the Chicken Tikki Masala. Though I did not know how to pronounce this dish, I must say that it was absolutely delicious and well worth my $12.95! Barbecued boneless white meat sauteed with herbs, spices, and tomatoes surely hit my spot of satisfaction! The chicken was so tender, I could barely pick it up with my fork! The spices were not too hot to enjoy the many flavors Indian food prides itself on! Juicy and delightful, I truly enjoyed this meal along with my Nimbo Pani, their house lemonade.

The portions were definitely filling and enough to pass around and share with others. They also have wonderful vegetarian options on the menu for those who don't eat meat! Oh and did I mention that service is quick! We received our food in around 10 minutes from ordering! I recommend this restaurant to anyone who plans on visiting San Francisco! This is the place to go if you want authentic Northern Indian cuisine! Bring a big group along or have a romantic date at Indian Oven! It is well worth the travel and every cent!

San Francisco has so many good, cheap (half the price of Indian Oven!) restaurants. I could go on for days about 'em!

And now I'm really hungry.
