Prevent the Corruption

Above: The current cover of one of my fave zines, Shotgun Seamstress.

Hey lovlies. Ash here. I know I've been M.I.A. lately but that is going to change. Anywho, I wanted to take some time out to give you guys a message. As you may or may not know, Afropunk is starting to get increased recognition and as this happens, I have seen people express their concern over AP getting mainstream exposure. Many of these concerns are valid and I have some myself. As a result of my concern, I created the Afropunk Media group on the AP site. We shouldn't be expected to assimilate into the mainstream media. We should create our own media.

Blogs. Zines. Radio.Books.Magazines.Newspapers.

We deserve to have our voices heard with compromising ourselves. For this reason, I urge you guys to support your Afropunk Media.

Buy zines.

Follow blogs (including this one ;-])

Hell, create your own shit!

Do something!

I'll get you started.......Click here to go to the Afropunk Media group. Join to get and give support!

How Awesome is a Chocolate Grace Jones?!

How did I miss this? Super late on this one. This creation is apparently for her album, "Hurricane", her first effort in over 20 years. Tom Hingstion Studios designed and art directed the shoot:

“The original idea was to produce a set of images of Grace being mass-produced but with her being in control of the actual process,” says Hingston. “The crux of the idea is that she has ownership of her identity. We looked at a range of manufacturing processes, from car makers to pottery factories, but there was something about her being made of chocolate that had [the right] connotations.”

Grace Jones is the queen of all that is fierce *cough*take that tyra*cough*. How fitting. Here is the cover for "Hurricane".

When You Have Unlimited Time on Your Hands

This is what happens:

I discovered my love for collages in 8th grade when I had to do a science project on subliminal messages. I made a collage full of ads but added my own little secret "messages" for people to interpret. I got the silver for that. Should've got the gold. Bitches.

I acquired some free time over the winter break and decided to express my love for WYP in collage form! Obviously, I heart WYP. Hard.
