I Must Be a Glutton for Punishment

Someone share my pain with me?

I decided to watch Lil Wayne's god awful video for his new single single, "Prom Queen". And it was everything I imagined: cliched shakey camera, lame storyline, choreographed "mosh pit", ear drum abuse via autotune...THE WORKS! There is something so Sk8terboi-esque about this video. That's never ever good. And don't get me started on that kiss. WHAT WAS THAT? yucksauce. This is almost as bad as Party Like a Rockstar (Almost. I'll never forget).

Initially, I didn't think the song was that bad. I am eating my words.
This whole "I wanna be different" thing is terrible, Lil' Wayne. Don't think that you're some kind of cool nerd/rockstar just because you decided to wear horn-rimmed glasses, Mr. Carter.

So guys, what do you think? (Lawl)
How 'bout that Korn?

Rihanna and Chris Brown: Trouble in Paradise.

On the night of the Grammys, both Rihanna and boyfriend Chris Brown were due to attend. Chris was scheduled to perform the night but, instead he and Rihanna were involved in a domestic violence crime in which Rihanna suffered two contusions to the forehead. The whole incident has been in speculation since it was brought to the public's attention.

The question buzzing in my head is why? Why would two of Hollywood’s hottest and most successful stars be in such a situation? After doing a little research of my own, it seems the two had some troubles prior to Grammy night. Apparently this is not the first time Brown has but his hands on the singer, but it was because of a jealousy factor as cited from NBC. In my most personal of opinions, there could be nothing more ridiculous. Not only can I not understand the reason as to what either of the two could have to be jealous over but more importantly, why would you want to solve an issue with violence?

As a celebrity, nothing could be more irresponsible. Chris has just lost many if not all endorsements. Not to mention any venues he had planned, he can count those out the window. The first thing that comes to mind would be record sales in which case, who is to blame for you having shitty record sales? Logic would tell me to get off my ass and make better music. Nonetheless, Chris Brown is currently home in Virginia. He claims to be seeking help from his pastor and family. This just goes to show that even the rich and famous have real life issues too.

Something I've noticed... this needed to be addressed

So, I work in a micro-brewery/pool hall/restaurant... and I have noticed a trend, that has me questioning, how far we have come as a people in the past 50+ years... Tonight at work, I worked the pool room, and in the pool room, there are 10 tables, that stretches a good 30 yards, maybe a bit more, from the front to the back. ITs HUGE!!!! 10 tables, 20 chairs, and a shit ton of people who likes to play pool, and get drunk. I do not mind serving people, and I don’t mind serving assholes, that’s a given, but one trend that I started to see, and is starting to get me depressed, is when my people, OUR people, ,ask for tables in the back!... Now, don’t get me wrong... I understand that people want there privacy, and wants to try to mack on a certain young lady, or whatever, but its starting to become depressing to give out tables 7 through 10 to black people...

Here is why. Before December 1, 1955, All blacks were forced to sit in the back of the bus to get where ever in said town. and it was sad... And on THAT very day (12/1/1955), One Rosa Louise McCauley Parks, paid her money, and sat down in one of the seats in the front of the bus. She was asked to move for a white patron, and she politely, and respectfully, said simply, "no." And that one powerful, and simple show of defiance of ignorance, and show of humanity as a black woman in Montgomery, Alabama, showed the world that WE ARE PEOPLE TOO! And, this is what’s disturbing to me, and its not all my brothers and sisters out in the crazy world that is this.

But, there are still those who think that being in the back makes you cool or more socially attractive. I disagree... Not only did Ms. Parks fight for equal rights by refusing to give up her seat, but, she fought for us, NOT to be in the back of ANYTHING! And on Sundays, at my job, the pool room is probably the slowest section in the entire restaurant, and I have to travel ALL THE WAY TO THE FUCKIN BACK to serve my brothers and sisters, who wanna sit back there for whatever ungodly and stupid reason. And what’s even worse, when I give out a certain table, these fuckasses, who neglect to listen, decides that its better for them to go all the way back there, when I gave them a certain table, its for MY welfare. I could care less about money. But when I put you somewhere, you are to go there, and not defy me, by being a Nigger Tree, and be difficult with me. I am doing this for certain reason... And it just upsets me when my own are being ignorant, of the fact that I wan them to step away from the norm that is for us to settle for the back.

It's funny cause, a lot of them are all about talking about how black is beautiful, and how they are being kept down by the man and all that type of ignorant shit, when, its actually them/us, who are keeping US down!. If we are to rise up, we need to display our beauty, and our ways of being accepted in the world!, If IM wrong, PLEASE tell me, but I honestly think that we can do better, by going to Tables 1-6, and not be what the world expects us to be. Now, when I say this, I don’t mean that its all the brothers and sisters that I encounter, its just those who still don’t wanna know, or wanna try to know... And plus, some of the best tables are actually in the front of the fuckin room!

But like any nigger, they wanna be niggerish, and maintain their nigger ways. I do hope and pray to GOD that this changes. Cause I believe, that Ms. Park’s defiance will be all for not, and in vein, if we continue to do what they (MLK, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Medgar Evers, and others who fought for use to be in this day as free black men and women) fought so hard and sacrifice so much for, and let the front be empty of color. I’m not trying to bring a race war into this, I’m just talking from the heart. Be blessed guys, and goodnight.

Come On Now......

For the past few days, people across the country have been celebrating Barack Obama's victory as the democratic nominee. But as usual, someone has to rain on his parade and stir up something: Bob Johnson and the other Clintonites. I didn't think Hillary Clinton would go a way quietly, she hasn't even seceded to Obama but her supporters are getting ridiculous. There have been numorous reports and articles about a Clinton/Obama ticket (Clinton even said she is open to taking the VP ticket) and Clinton's supporters,Clintonites as I affectionately call them, are pulling out all the stops to make sure the so-called "dream ticket" becomes a reality. Bob Johnson, BET founder and loyal Clinton supporter, even wrote a letter asking the Congressional Black Caucus to urge Obama to put Clinton on the ticket. When I heard about the letter and actually read it, I was appalled. This is the same man that practically called Obama a drug addict and made it look like Black people owe the Clintons something. Now that Obama has won the nomination, he still wants to get his and Clinton's piece of the pie and it's sickening. I am disheartened at the fact that Johnson and other so-called "black leaders" have spent the past seventeen months trying to destroy the very cause they claim to be fighting for. We are the closest we have ever been to having a black president and they have their noses in the air. Now,I have no problem with them supporting Hillary Clinton, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but trying to tear down Barack Obama in the process is wrong and hypocritical. These civil rights leaders claim marched up and down roads, got sprayed with water hoses and got attacked by dogs to ensure that generations behind them would be able to have the same rights that were given to white people. Now we are so much closer to achieving that dream and they jumping ship. They have questioned his morals and even his blackness, one claiming Bill Clinton is blacker than Obama and another saying he "acts white" about black issues . Preachers have even dedicated sermons to insulting Barack Obama . These are the people that have looked at as role models for the Black Community and now look at them: a bunch of bitter old people that are won't give credit where credit is due. Barack Obama has won. Hillary lost. Case Closed. Game Over. Their next mission should be unifying the Democratic Party and ensuring that John "Bush 2.0" McCain doesn't make it into the White House.
UPDATE:HILLARY CLINTON SECEDED TO BARACK OBAMA LATE LAST WEEK! YES WE CAN!!!

The Fight Isn't Over...

Photobucket

I’m going to be honest, up until a few days ago, the Sean Bell case wasn’t in the forefront of my mind. I hadn’t heard about it in a while so I wasn’t that concerned about it. Well, I became very concerned about it after a heard about the not guilt verdict for those three mur—I mean detectives. Now I am more than concerned about it, I’m just shocked and angry.
For those of you that have been living under a rock, Sean Bell died in November 2006 after he was shot over fifty times by three New York detectives. Bell was to be married in a few hours and he was unarmed. He left behind his future wife and two daughters. Normally I don’t support Al Sharpton and his causes but when I read his quote: “This verdict is one round down, but the fight was far from over”, he gained my support in this particular case. This injustice shouldn’t be accepted and the fight should go on. After all, someone else could have taken those fifty bullets, it didn’t have to be Sean Bell. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It could still be someone else. That verdict gave more corrupt policemen permission to shoot someone if the walk on the wrong side of the street or if they litter. As black people, we need to fight to ensure that this doesn’t have to happen to someone else. Sean Bell doesn’t have to die in vain. The police are supposed to be protecting us, not killing us. Sean Bell’s case wasn’t the first of its kind and unfortunately it probably won’t be the last unless we do something to stop these monsters. Some people may claim that this is an example of ‘take a life to safe life’ but all I see is excessive force and racial profiling. Sean Bell and his two friends were UNARMED. It shouldn’t take 50 bullets to subdue three unarmed men. I don’t like to play the race card but I do call things like I see them. Those three police officers saw three black men and automatically assumed the worse. If they were three white men, those policemen would be rotting in a jail cell, but it’s unlikely that something like this would happen to three white men. The justice system has failed the black community once again and we should be tired of sitting on our asses and letting it happen. The justice system failed us when this verdict was handed down. The justice system failed us when Genarlow Wilson was served three years for a law that isn’t in existence anymore. We need to stop sitting on our asses and letting incidents like this happen over and over again. It time for us to fight for our rights as AMERICAN citizens.

Wake up! Speak Out!

There has been a lot of controversy over the hip-hop industry and it’s degradation of women. It has been broadcast on TV and the radio and written about in magazines, books, and newspapers. Although I have been exposed to this subject dozens of times, I wasn’t that bothered by it until two days ago.
My high school put on an assembly for a seminar with businessmen in the music industry. They lectured us for a bit and then there was a question and answer session. Well, one girl stood up and asked “Why do rappers write songs that degrade women?”. I was very happy that she asked that question but that didn’t inspire this article, the reactions of the audience AKA my school mates did. They jeered and booed her and one guy even called her a “hater”. It is one thing to be completely indifferent about the degradation of women, especially black women, but to condone it is just plain wrong. It upsets me that the media and the rap industry has corrupted the minds of my peers so deeply that we celebrate the fact that black women are being made to look like whore and wenches in music created by black men. I have witnessed some of my peers and even some people older than me complain about white, latino or lighter-skinned girls being in all the music video instead of black women. As a black woman and a feminist , I wish that woman in general were not portrayed as they are in music videos, but I’m happy that black women aren’t as prominent in music videos as they used to be. Unfortunately it is obvious that some people would disagree with that statement and that’s why I chose to write this article. I wanted to speak out against this growing issue just like my classmate did and I hope all of you in cyberspace chose to do the same thing.
